Skill Development Program
Skill development is the bridge between academic learning and industry readiness. At SVS Group of Institutions, we are committed to closing the academia-industry gap by equipping students with cognitive, soft, and job-specific skills through structured training programs, certifications, and hands-on exposure to emerging technologies.
1. Objectives of Skill Development
- We are struggling with the academia-industry gap for years now. Though the number of colleges has mushroomed, students are not job-ready. They lack the skills that the workplace requires.
- The program not only wishes for employment but also strives to broaden the mindset of the youth. For actual progress, we need good entrepreneurs and scientists too.
- It also has provisions for the economic empowerment of the underprivileged youth such as skill loan scheme and aims to mitigate poverty.
- Through Skill India mission, the government wants the youth to meet both local demand and rank well on a global scale.
2. Context of Skill Development
Skill development means a process which enables trainees and the working age people to gain access to dexterity, knowledge and ability, career ethics and good working attitude by skill training, establishing skill standards, and other relating activities.
A worker’s skill set consists of cognitive, soft, and job-specific skills, which are shaped in different ways. The foundation that underpins a person’s ability to learn and acquire skills is hardwired in early childhood, and depends on good nutrition, early stimulation, and a safe environment.
Attention to early childhood development can increase learning ability and raise wages in adult life.

Objective: Employability Enhancement of students under the programme and to set forth the modus operandi to provide Training in Information, Electronics and Communication Technology (IECT) by NIELIT to students of JNTUH affiliated colleges.
Employability of students is less than 80% for professional students as they lack practical/industry relevant training when they pass out from colleges.
These programmes are offered for Diploma / B.Tech / M.Tech students during summer or winter vacations to gain hands-on experience on latest technologies that are industry relevant.
3. Determine the Need of the Workforce
All upskilling journeys start with a demand for skills that will help the business advance. Triggers include changes in strategic focus, new technology implementation, or external disrupters like a pandemic.Skills such as business acumen, ability to communicate with data, design thinking, customer-centric solutions, and storytelling are increasingly vital.
Skills are identified through interviews with senior leadership and HR managers, resulting in clear role descriptions and required behaviors.Current employee skill levels are determined through individual assessments, interviews, or team manager feedback.
4. Assess the Current Level of Employee Skills
The second step is to determine the current level of employee skills. The skills identified in the first step serve as inputs for this assessment. Relevant populations are assessed on their current skill level through individual assessment, interviews, or interviews with team managers.
The retail company example found a significant difference in how the HRBP role had evolved in different subsidiaries — an HRBP in one part could have a much more strategic role and different skill set than in another part of the organization.
Evidence of Success
Good communication skills are important, both in person and online. The next generation needs to excel in these and lead the conversation when required.
With most workplaces using tools like Slack or Skype to communicate within their teams, written communication is a major point. Reading comprehension and writing skills have become crucial skills for the modern student and employee.
Special circumstances may require key team members living in different locations to navigate — people will need to be multifaceted and learn how to communicate using new mediums.
Problems Encountered and Resources Required
- Development of sustainable models requires great creativity. Institute needs involvement and encouragement from skill development personnel to promote such models.
- Students feel burdened by academics and are not comfortable participating in skill activities.
- Being an affiliated college, there is lack of academic flexibility. Sudden changes in university almanac at times pose challenges to plan skill activities.
- Persuading students to understand a spirit of sustainable development poses certain problems.
- Students need to be motivated for participation in skill activities and environment sustainability by inviting eminent people from reputed skill development organizations.
- Institutional flexibility and proactive engagement models are required to integrate skill development seamlessly into academic calendars.
